The Demon Deacons remained perfect at home with a 7-5 and 9-8 victory over Binghamton on Saturday.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The No. 1 Wake Forest baseball team picked up a pair of wins on Saturday with a 7-5 and 9-8 victory over Binghamton at David F. Couch Ballpark to improve to 8-0 at home this season.
Graduate transfer Cameron Gill played the hero in the Demon Deacons (9-1) first walk-off win of the season in the night cap of Saturday's doubleheader with a single off the right field wall to walk-off the Bearcats (2-6), 9-8.
At the plate, the Deacs had three hitters go 3-for-8 on the day, with Adam Tellier, Seaver King and Jack Winnay all finishing the doubleheader with three hits.
Shortstop Marek Houston also finished with three hits over the twinbill with none bigger than his first home run of the season in the second inning of game two. The sophomore launched a 1-1 pitch over the wall in left center for his second career grand slam to put the Deacs up 5-0.
In his third start of the season in game one, junior lefthander Josh Hartle notched a season-high seven strikeouts to put him 24 away from cracking the top-10 in program history.
His third win of the season and 21st victory of his career now moves Hartle just one win away from entering the top 10 in program history.
In game two, Chase Burns struck out 10 or more for the seventh time in his career with a season-high 11 punchouts on Saturday and has now struckout 246 career batters. The junior righty currently sits at 15.3 K/9 through his first three outings.

FROM COACH WALTER
"I thought Josh Hartle threw the ball better today than he had in the first two weeks. Obviously, he gave up the pair of two-run homers with two outs and two strikes. He typically gets us in the dugout there but I want to give credit to the Binghamton hitters for putting good swings on the ball in those situations. I was really happy with our bullpen at the end of game one. I thought Dave Falco was outstanding. Will Ray pitched well again coming in behind Josh. I'm very happy with the way we threw the ball in game one, we did just enough offensively to get us a win. Seaver King had a great day in the first game. Austin Hawke had another good day. He has been having our best at-bats down in the bottom of the lineup, which is huge for us. The story of the first game was Austin and Seaver doing a really good job at the plate and the bullpen finishing.
In game two, I thought Chase Burns and Josh Gunther both threw the ball well. We just had too many walks in the second game. We allowed 10 walks, which is not like us at all. We walked the leadoff hitter to start the inning four times. We had an 8-2 lead with six outs to get and had to go to the bottom of the ninth. Give credit to our guys, they battled and found a way to win. Marek Houston had a big grand slam early to give us the lead. Jack Winnay had another good swing to get us to 8-2. We coughed it up after that but we showed some toughness. We had a couple of good walks. Austin Hawke and Mitchell Salvino had a great walk there in the last inning and Gill got it done for us. Again, Binghamton has a good club and it feels good to get two wins. We still aren't playing our best baseball yet but we are finding ways to win. So hopefully we can put some things together here soon." - head coach Tom Walter
