First baseman Nick Kurtz homered five times over the course of the week and has thirteen home runs in the last nine games.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest junior first baseman Nick Kurtz has been named the ACC Player of the Week for the second-straight week, as the league announced on Monday afternoon.
Kurtz becomes the first hitter to win the award multiple times this season and was one of just two athletes a season ago to be named ACC Player of the Week twice.
With five weekly awards split between Kurtz and teammate Chase Burns, the Deacs lead the conference this season in recognitions.
The Lancaster, Pa. native sat ninth all-time in program history in homers two weeks ago and moved all the way into a tie for third with the five bombs last week. Kurtz has now homered in eight of the last nine games and has 13 total during that span.
Kurtz now leads the team with 16 home runs, after slugging a ridiculous 1.733 over four games last week. He finished the week 8-of-15 with 12 RBI, 8 R, 7 XBH (5 HR, 3B, 2B), 25 TB and five walks.
Additionally, Kurtz drew five walks, bringing his season total to 39 and his nation leading career total to 150 walks in 139 games played (1.1 walks/game). He is now just 30 walks away from the program record and comfortably sits in third in program history.
