
Deacs in Second After Day One of ACC Championships

Three Demon Deacons finished the first day inside the top 10.
WILMINGTON, N.C. - The top-seeded women's golf team shot an eight-under-par in the opening round of ACC Championships to head into the second day in second place and just two strokes off the lead.
The Deacs led the field in scoring on par-five holes and were second on par-fours and third on par-threes. Wake recorded 61 pars as a team, the most in the field, and 19 birdies, the second-most in the field.
Junior Carolina Chacarra and freshman Brooke Rivers were the low Deacs for the day. In the first round of her first postseason appearance, Rivers shot three under on the day, including two birdies on her final three holes. Chacarra had a near-perfect scorecard, with three birdies on the front, including going back-to-back on the second and third holes. After making the turn at three-under, she had back-to-back birdies again on the 15th and 16th to finish the day with a 69.
In the first round of her final ACC Championship, senior Mimi Rhodes made the turn at even par after going bogey-birdie on six and seven. She birdied 12 to get back to even and went on to birdie two of her final four holes to finish the day with a two-under score of 70.
Graduate Rachel Kuehn and freshman Macy Pate each finished even par on the day and birdied the final hole, a 470-yard par five. Pate went one over on her first nine and one under on the back to get to even and Kuehn had two bogeys and two birdies on her first nine and two-and-two on the back, with both of her second-nine birdies coming on her final four holes.
Friday's Second Round
Wake Forest will be paired with Clemson and Virginia with tee times beginning at 9:50 a.m. ET in 10-minute intervals.
