The Demon Deacons will return to the courts for senior day on Sunday against No. 19 Miami.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - In a match that saw five of the six singles courts decided by a third set, the No. 31-ranked Wake Forest women's tennis team fell to No. 28 Florida State, 5-2, at Wake Forest Tennis Center Friday afternoon.
The Demon Deacons (14-10, 5-5 ACC) dropped a tightly-contested doubles point after the Seminoles (13-6, 7-3 ACC) took courts one and three. Senior Casie Wooten and sophomore Whitley Pate earned a 6-4 victory in second doubles for their fifth victory as a pairing this season.
In singles, Pate continued her strong afternoon as she became the fifth Demon Deacon to reach double-digit victories in dual play this season, as she took down Maelie Monfils, 6-0, 6-2, in sixth singles in a dominant showing.
In third singles, graduate Marcella Cruz notched a three-set victory over Florida State's Anna Arkadianou by a score of 6-4, 2-6, 6-2. She now has eight singles wins to her team-high 12 doubles victories so far this season.

From Coach Wyshner
"Tough one today. The difference between winning and losing was just a couple points in doubles and in some of the singles. Credit to Florida State for playing more of the big points well and responding to the early pressure we put on them. It was a close match and could have gone either way, but it wasn't our day. We have a big one against Miami on Sunday and we'll see if we can respond with a big effort after a loss."
