
Leia Braunagel Claims First Place and Sets a New Program Record in the Women’s Discus

For the second-straight weekend, Braunagel broke her own person-best and Wake Forest record.
HIGH POINT, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's and women's track and field teams completed a record-setting performance at the Vertklasse Meet. Leia Braunagel and Robbie Grace both claimed first place and set new top-10 program marks in their respective events.
Following her record-setting discus throw at the Stanford Invitational, Braunagel shattered the previous personal best with a 58.44m throw. After rewriting last weekend, Braunagel still holds the program record for longest outdoor women's discus throw. Along with setting the new program record, the Baden-Baden, Germany native threw the best series of her career with a 56.78m, 58.44m, 54.04m, 57.56m, 57.38m and 58.31m.
Along with Braunagel, Ashlyn Giles finished second in the women;s discus with a 52.24m throw. Giles' throw set a new personal best and is the second-longest throw in program history. Finally, Amanda Schaare placed fourth with a season-best 50.58m throw.
Giles and Schaare also finished in the top-five of the women's shot put. Giles finished with a season-best throw of 15.45m and placed second. Schaare finished in fourth place with a 14.82m throw.
On Friday, Megan Cook and Robbie Grace finished on the podium for the Deacs. Cook claimed second place with a 58.41m throw. Cook's throw was a season-best and the second-longest throw in Wake Forest history. Grace claimed first place with a 6.17m jump. Along with the first place finish, Grace set a new personal-best and now holds the second-longest jump in Wake Forest history.
