Graduate student Holden Koons has now won 11-consecutive dual singles matches.

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The No. 6-ranked Wake Forest men's tennis team earned its 14th-straight victory Sunday evening, defeating Miami, 4-2, at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center in Coral Gables, Fla.
 
With the victory, Wake Forest (24-4, 9-1 ACC) has now won 14-consecutive matches, marking the program's longest streak since 2019. Additionally, the Demon Deacons have now won nine-straight against Miami (10-12, 2-9 ACC), dating back to 2015.
 
After jumping out to a commanding 3-0 lead, Wake Forest relinquished back-to-back matches, before graduate student Holden Koons clinched the victory en route to his 11th-consecutive dual singles win. Of note, Koons has accumulated a 20-3 dual singles mark this season, including a 8-1 ledger in ACC play.
 
No. 74 DK Suresh Ekambaram earned his seventh ranked singles win as he defeated No. 125 Martin Katz on court one. Suresh Ekambaram, a product of Chennai, India, has compiled a team-best 5-3 record in first singles this season.
 
After Sunday's results, the Demon Deacons currently sit in second place in the ACC with two league matches remaining.
 
How It Happened
  • Miami got off to a strong start in doubles play, before Wake Forest settled in, taking the lead on each court.
  • No. 1 DK Suresh Ekambaram/Holden Koons pulled the Demon Deacons within one match of securing the doubles point with a 6-3 win in the top slot.
  • Luciano Tacchi/Luca Pow then clinched the doubles point, taking court three (6-3).
    • Wake Forest led, 1-0, going into singles play.
  • The Demon Deacons opened singles action, taking the opening set on four courts.
  • Saud Alhogbani gave the Deacs a 2-0 lead as he earned a 6-2, 6-2 win on court six.
    • Sunday marked his second ACC dual singles win of the season.
      • Additionally, he has now won four-consecutive singles matches.
  • No. 74 DK Suresh Ekambaram then extended the lead, earning a 7-6, 6-4 victory in first singles.
    • Suresh Ekambaram is currently on a three-match winning streak.
  • Miami took second and third singles, respectively, to narrow its deficit.
    • Meanwhile, courts four and five both went to a deciding set.
  • After dropping set one, Holden Koons stormed back to knock off ​​Nacho Serra Sanchez on court four to clinch the victory.
    • Luca Pow led (7-5, 4-6, 4-1) at the time of the clinch.
  • Wake Forest defeated Miami, 4-2, in its regular season road finale.
