First baseman Nick Kurtz homered six times over the course of the week, including five in the sweep of No. 11 Virginia Tech.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After an 8-for-14 (.571) week with six homers, a double, 11 RBI and nine runs scored, Wake Forest junior first baseman Nick Kurtz has been named the ACC Player of the Week, as the league announced on Monday afternoon.
Kurtz joins teammate Chase Burns as ACC award winners this season, with Burns taking home three-straight ACC Pitcher of the Week honors to open conference play.
The Lancaster, Pa. native entered the week ninth all-time in program history in homers and moved all the way to solo possession of fourth with the six bombs. Kurtz has now homered in five-consecutive games and has eight total during that span.
Kurtz became the first Demon Deacon with three home runs in a game since Brock Wilken against Alabama in the Winston-Salem Super Regional last season. His seven RBI on Sunday also marked a season-high for the junior and the second-most in a single game in his career.
Sunday marked the first time in his collegiate career that he has hit three home runs in a single game, as he's previously recorded two home runs in seven different contests.
His three home runs also tied the program record for a single game, most recently achieved by former teammate Brock Wilken in the Winston-Salem Super Regional on June 11, 2023.
Kurtz moved into a tie for the team lead with 11 home runs, after slugging a ridiculous 1.929 over four games last week.
Additionally, Kurtz drew six walks to move past Charlotte's Shane Taylor as the active Division-I leader in bases on balls. He currently sits at third all-time in program history with 145 free passes.
