Deacs Move Closer to Cutline in Round Two of NCAA Austin Regional

AUSTIN, TX- In the second round of the NCAA Austin Regional Tuesday afternoon, the Wake Forest men's golf team climbed four spots up the leaderboard and were eight strokes better from their opening round.
After 36 holes, the Demon Deacons finished round two in sixth place with a score of 570 (+2), and are just two strokes away from the cutline with Utah holding the final NCAA Championship qualification spot at even par.
As a team, Wake Forest has the third highest score of round two in the thirteen teams in the field.
Leading the charge for the Deacs was senior Michael Brennan, who remained even or better for the entirety of the day.
After remaining even through the first nine holes, at the turn Brennan went on a tear, tallying four birdies.
To end round two, Brennan made a clutch birdie on his final hole to claim the lead. He currently sits in first place, and carded the lowest score of the day for the Deacs with a 68 (-3).
Brennan leads the Austin Regional in birdies with a total of thirteen over two rounds.
Juniors Scotty Kennon and Collin Adams both rose up the individual leaderboard in round two and are both tied for 25th. Both Kennon and Adams shot a better round in round two than their opening round.
For the final round of stroke play, Wake Forest will tee off on Wednesday with BYU (-6) and Utah (E), with the first tee time set for 8:00 a.m. off No. 10.

"We had a very good day. We played just as well as the first day, however, we scored a little better. We had a nice finish on the last hole with four of the five players making birdie. We start on hole 10 tomorrow, just like we have the first two days, so we should know what to expect and how the course will play. We made a nice move today, as they had the third best round in the field. It will be a shootout tomorrow and every stroke will count. It takes a lot of pride and effort to play at Wake Forest University on the men's golf team. These players are very proud to be Demon Deacons!!! Looking forward to tomorrow and the challenge ahead, we can't wait. Go Deacs!"
