2024 marks the second time in three years Wake Forest has had the Coach of the Year and Freshman of the Year.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Wake Forest women's golf team continues to dominate the Atlantic Coast Conference with four players earning All-ACC honors and freshman Macy Pate earning Freshman of the Year recognition, along with head coach Kim Lewellen being named the ACC women's golf Coach of the Year.
Coach Lewellen has earned ACC Coach of the Year for the third time in six years and Pate is the third Wake Forest player over the past seven years to earn Freshman of the Year honors.
Graduate Rachel Kuehn, senior Mimi Rhodes and junior Carolina Chacarra each earned All-ACC recognition along with Pate. This is the third time in program history that Wake Forest has had four or more players earn All-ACC recognition.
Since arriving in Winston-Salem, Coach Lewellen has been named ACC Coach of the Year three times, selected as the WGCA National Coach of the Year twice and was the head coach of the Arnold Palmer Cup Team USA in 2021. She has led the Demon Deacons to three ACC team titles, two ACC individual titles and the program's first national title in May 2023.
Pate is currently the highest ranked freshman in the ACC on Scoreboard by Clippd (44) by 28 spots. She has a 69.9 adjusted scoring average on Scoreboard, including three top-10 finishes throughout the year at the ANNIKA, the East Lake Cup and the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate. Eight of her nine finishes in her debut season were inside the top-28, with six of them being in the top-20.
In the fall season, she earned the winning point of the championship match over Texas to give Wake Forest the team title at the Jackson T. Stephens Cup. Twenty-one of Pate's 24 stroke-play rounds this season have been even or under par, including seven rounds in the 60s and a season-low 65 in the second round of the Schooner Classic in September. The Winston-Salem native shot a 6-under 210 twice in the fall at The ANNIKA Intercollegiate and the Windy City Classic.
Kuehn is second on the team with a 70.84 stroke average over 25 stroke play rounds. She joins Pte as the only two players to play in every single event for the entire 2023-24 season. Prior to winning the ACC individual title in April, Kuehn had four top-10 finishes, highlighted by a third-place finish at the Schooner Classic in September and a fourth-place finish at the Moon Golf Invitational in February.
Rhodes is fourth on the team with a 71.40 stroke average over 20 stroke-play rounds. The senior from Bath, England is now a three-time All-ACC honoree and has appeared in the lineup for every single event she has played over her four years. She's had six top-20 finishes in eight events, including a season-best third-place finish at the Schooner Classic in September.
Chacarra is also a three-time All-ACC honoree and leads the team this year with a 69.75 stroke average over 16 stroke-play rounds. She has three top-five finishes on the year, one top-10 and two more top-15. The Spaniard has finished inside the top 15 in all six events she has played, including a pair of third place finishes at the Schooner Classic and the Jackson T. Stephens Cup. Most recently she finished T5 at the ACC Championships with a five-under score of 211.
The ACC Champions continue postseason play May 6-8 when Wake Forest will be one of six host institutions for the 2024 NCAA Regionals next week at Bermuda Run Country Club. Admission is free all three days with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. ET each day of competition.
In each regional, 12 teams and six individuals not on those teams will compete. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championship May 17-22 at La Costa Golf Club and Resort in Carlsbad, California.
