King becomes the third pick in the top 10 for Wake Forest this year, as the Deacs join the 2004 Rice squad as programs with three first-rounders in a single draft.

FORT WORTH, Texas – Wake Forest baseball's Seaver King was selected by the Washington Nationals with the 10th overall pick in the first round of the 2024 MLB Draft on Sunday.

"The Nationals got a dynamic personality and a dynamic athlete in Seaver King," head coach Tom Walter said. "His bat speed, raw athleticism and upside put him in a class by himself. This guy is going to be in the big leagues very quickly.

King is the 13th Demon Deacon all-time taken in the first round of the draft and seventh in the last four years, joining teammates Chase Burns, who was selected by the Cincinnati Reds with the second pick of the 2024 Draft, and Nick Kurtz, who was selected by the Oakland Athletics with the fourth pick of the 2024 Draft, Rhett Lowder (2023), Brock Wilken (2023), Ryan Cusick (2021) and Jared Shuster (2020).

Additionally, he is the fifth-highest selected Demon Deacon in program history, and the fourth top 10 pick in the last two seasons.
