Langston Rejoins Volleyball Staff as Assistant Coach

Welcome back to Wake, Drew Langston!
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest volleyball is bringing a familiar face back to its program ahead of the 2024-25 school year, as Drew Langston was named an Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator on Thursday (Aug. 1), announced by head coach Randi Smart and the program.
Langston initially worked as a volunteer coach for the Demon Deacons during the 2022-23 campaign, now set to make a return to DEACTOWN.
"I'm so grateful for the opportunity to come back to 'The Forest!' said Langston. "I cannot thank Coach Smart enough for trusting me to join the program once again. I am so excited to get to work with the staff here and players as we keep building! Wake Forest is an awesome place – I knew I wanted to get back at some point since my last stint, and I am so grateful that time is now. Looking forward to reuniting all of Deacon Nation – Go Deacs!"
This past year involved Langston acting as an assistant coach for Elon University's volleyball team in nearby Alamance County. Setter Jessica Parker was named to the All-Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Rookie Team, becoming the second consecutive Phoenix player to earn such honors.
During Langston's first run with the Deacs in fall 2022, the team pieced together a 17-14 overall record while earning 10 victories on their home floor – the most since 2014. Wake Forest went on to participate in the 2022 National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC) for its first postseason appearance since 1986 when the Deacons played in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Tournament before the event ceased in 2004. Langston's efforts on the sideline aided into the team finishing third in the league in digs as a unit, posting a 14.50 per-set average. Emma Farrell was named the 2022 ACC Freshman of the Year after leading the conference in a digs-per-set average (4.41), as she and classmate Paige Crawford additionally were tabbed to the conference's 2022 All-Freshman Team, becoming the first pair in program history to secure All-Freshman selections in the same season since Caroline Rassenfoss and Caitlyn Della in 2016.
"We are thrilled to welcome Drew back to Wake," said Coach Smart. "His passion for the game and dedication to our players will undoubtedly inspire and continue to drive our team towards new heights. We are excited to get started with Drew and the team for preseason practices this month!"
A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Langston attended Murray State University for his undergraduate years, where he worked with the Racers' volleyball team for four seasons as a student assistant and received a Bachelor of Science, Business Administration in May 2022. His duties at Murray State involved managing daily practice schedules, coordinating efficient practice drills, assisting in opponent scouting, film breakdown, and travel coordination, while also monitoring the program's social media platforms. The Racers produced multiple all-conference players each year throughout Langston's tenure and were crowned Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) Tournament Champions in 2018 en route to making an NCAA tournament appearance.
Langston has volleyball coaching and training experience with both Alpha Performance Volleyball and Kentucky Basketball Academy, both of which were held in Lexington.
