WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest head men's basketball coach Steve Forbes has been selected to the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Oversight Committee for the 2024-28 term.
"It's an honor and privilege to be selected to the Division 1 Men's Basketball Oversight Committee," said Forbes. "I am excited to serve on this influential committee that is dedicated to the advancement of men's basketball. I'm proud to represent Wake Forest University and the ACC as I begin my 36th year as a college basketball coach."
The Men's Basketball Oversight Committee supervises qualifications and selection procedures for the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship. The committee reviews recommendations from the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee and processes other issues related to the administration of the championship. The committee also provides direction to the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Rules Committee regarding playing rules.
"Steve Forbes' selection to the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Oversight Committee reflects the respect he has earned from his fellow head coaches throughout the ACC and around the country," said Wake Forest Vice President & Director of Athletics John Currie. "He's experienced championship level success and positively impacted student-athlete lives at virtually every level of college basketball over his 30-year career, including at Wake Forest, where he is among the league's winningest coaches over the past three years. His willingness to devote time and energy to shape the future of men's college basketball for the benefit of student-athletes and all whom the game touches is deeply appreciated."
Forbes is entering his fifth season at the helm of the Demon Deacons with one of the most successful home records in the NCAA. The 17 home wins from the 2023-24 season are the second-most in program history, trailing just the 2021-22 season when the Demon Deacons finished with an impressive home of 18-2. The Deacs' overall 48 home wins over the past three seasons is the second most in the country.
Wake Forest has also returned to prominence in the Atlantic Coast Conference under the tutelage of Forbes. For the first time since 1995-97, Wake Forest has finished with 10 or more ACC wins in three consecutive seasons. Additionally, the 34 ACC wins during that three-year period marked the most since the 2003-05 run and when the Demon Deacons had 35 ACC wins.
Additionally with the win against Notre Dame in the ACC Tournament, Wake Forest reached the 20-win mark for the second time in the last three years. The 65 wins over the last three seasons mark the most wins in a three-year stretch since the 2002-03 to 2004-05 run.
Last season, the Demon Deacons defeated five teams that reached the NCAA Tournament including three wins over Elite Eight teams and a win over a Final Four team.
Forbes and Company provided an exciting environment for Deacon Nation all year long. Wake Forest saw a resurgence in season attendance numbers this season with 164,931 fans packing Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. This marked the highest total attendance since the 2014-15 season when Wake Forest hosted 174,336 fans during the 2014-15 season.
