The star midfielder has been on fire in the month of September, recording at least one goal-contribution in all but two matches.
CHARLOTTE – Following a week that saw her score twice, including the lone strike in the historic victory over No. 1 Stanford, senior midfielder Emily Colton of the Wake Forest women's soccer team has been named ACC Offensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office Tuesday.
This marks the first time in program history that the award has gone to a Wake Forest player in back-to-back weeks, after junior forward Caiya Hanks garnered the honors last Tuesday.
"I am so grateful and appreciative to have gotten the ACC Offensive Player of the Week," Colton said. "I do owe it all to my teammates and coaching staff, as our recent success would not be possible without the team effort. I am so excited for the rest of ACC play and I can't wait to see where our team continues to go!"
Colton's wonder-strike against No. 1 Stanford came in the 30th minute, as she received the ball from Hanks just outside the box and fired it into the top-right corner of the net. The goal gave Wake Forest its first win over a No. 1 team in program history.
She followed that up with a penalty kick goal in the 2-2 draw with Cal on Sunday.
Colton has now recorded a goal contribution in five of the last six outings, including a goal in the last two. She currently leads the team with 11 points so far this season with four goals and three assists. Additionally, she now has 14 goals and 39 total points for her collegiate career.
