
Demon Deacons Primed for Final Non-Conference Clash Against UNC Asheville

This will mark the first of four meetings against North Carolina schools for Wake Forest.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Looking to cap off a highly successful non-conference slate, the Wake Forest women's soccer team will host UNC Asheville this Sunday, Sept. 8 at Spry Stadium.
The match is slated for 2 p.m. and will be shown live on ACC Network Extra with live stats available here.
Before the match, Wake Forest will honor seniors Olivia DeMarinis, Nadia DeMarinis, Payton Cahill, Anna Swanson and Emily Silva for their contributions to the program over the last four years.
At halftime, the Demon Deacons will celebrate their 30th anniversary as they welcome back Wake Forest women's soccer alumni from throughout the years.

- Junior striker Hannah Johnson enters the weekend leading Wake Forest with five points (two goals, one assist), including a goal contribution in each of the first three games of the season.

- Using a late winner courtesy of junior forward Alex Wood, the Wake Forest women's soccer team picked up a 1-0 road victory over Villanova Thursday afternoon at the Higgins Soccer Complex.
- The lone goal of the contest came in the 84th minute, as senior midfielder Emily Colton used great skill to drive into the box from the right and played it to Wood, who buried it for her first tally since Sept. 7 of last year against Rhode Island.
- Wake Forest (4-1-1) dominated throughout the match as it controlled 63 percent of the ball and out-shot Villanova, 29-2 and 10-0 on-goal. The Demon Deacons have held a larger share of possession in all six matches so far to open the season.
- For the third-consecutive match and for the fifth time this season, senior defenders Zara Chavoshi and Laurel Ansbrow went the full 90 minutes en route to Wake Forest's third clean sheet of the campaign.
- Ansbrow, along with junior forward Caiya Hanks, both earned their 40th-career starts for Wake Forest. Additionally, junior defender Allie Schmidt earned her first start since Sept. 3 of last year against Iona.
- In goal, senior goalkeeper Payton Cahill improved to 7-2-4 for her career and picked up her sixth-career clean sheet.
- UNC Asheville enters the match with a 1-4-1 record and is coming off of a 2-1 road defeat to Furman on Thursday.
- Senior Ava Bjorkman-Tracy leads the team with five points, tallying two goals and an assist. Her first goal proved to be the winner in the 2-1 victory over Jacksonville State. She also scored in her last match against Furman.
- In goal, the Bulldogs have split starts between Allison Little and Gracie Murray. Little recorded a career-high eight saves last time out against Furman.
- This will mark just the third all-time meeting and first since 1996 between the in-state foes.
- Wake Forest defeated UNC Asheville, 2-0, in the first meeting in 1995, before the Bulldogs evened the series with a 2-0 victory the following year.
- Of note, this is the first of four meetings against a North Carolina school this year for the Demon Deacons.
