Deacs Host Big Four Foe North Carolina in Tuesday Night Showdown

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's basketball team returns to play in Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum Tuesday when they host Big Four foe North Carolina in the first of two sold out games at The Joel this week. Tip off against the Tar Heels is set for 9:00 p.m. and the game will air live on ESPN.
 
The Deacs are coming off their third-consecutive ACC road win of the season, defeating Virginia Tech in Blacksburg 72-63 over the weekend and are now 6-1 in ACC play, the best start to league play since 1996-97.  Wake is currently 9-0 at The Joel this season and are looking to start the fourth straight season 10-0 at home. The Demon Deacons join Duke as the only league teams undefeated at home this season.
 
Against the Hokies, Wake forced 14 turnovers, moving their season total to 259 through the first 18 games of the season, which ranks second in the ACC.  The Deacs recorded six steals during the contest, moving them into third in the ACC with 141 steals.
 
The Demon Deacons went into Saturday's contest second in the ACC in opponent field goal percentage, holding opponents to an average of 38.9 field goal percentage per game. The Deacs held Virginia Tech, who averaged 40 percent from beyond the arc in ACC play coming into Saturday, to only 32 percent from three in the game.
 
Hunter Sallis continued his play of scoring dominance, registering a game-high 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting. The senior guard has scored 20 or more points in the team's last seven showings. Saturday was also Sallis' tenth performance of 20-plus points in 2024-25. He also made an impact on the glass with seven rebounds in 38 minutes played.
 
Cameron Hildreth contributed 21 points, including an exceptional 53.8 field goal percentage (7-for 13). It was his third time notching 20-plus points this season, as he also went 6-of-8 from the free-throw line.
 
Wake Forest tallied a collective 45.6 field goal percentage and outperformed Virginia Tech in both paint points (26-24) and second-chance points (16-8).

The Matchup
North Carolina has started the year 5-2 in league play and is coming off a one-point home loss to Stanford over the weekend. The only other conference loss came at Louisville on the first of the year., where the Tar Heels fell by 13 to the Cardinals. Veteran guard RJ Davis leads Carolina offensively with 17.3 points per game. Junior Jalen Washington leads the Tar Heels on the board, pulling down 5.1 per game this year.
