Women’s tennis wrapped its third event of the fall on Sunday.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's tennis team concluded action in the 2025 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Carolina Regional on Sunday afternoon, following four days of competition on the campus of the University of North Carolina.
During the event, senior Whitley Pate notched a career milestone of 100 career combined wins on Saturday morning. In all, the standout Demon Deacon finished with four total wins through singles and doubles play.
The Deacs tallied seven wins during day one of qualifying play in singles, as Heidi Bulger, Sankavi Gownder and Evie Oxford all moved into the main draw, joining Nevena Carton.
Pate and Evie Oxford played well as a pairing in doubles, advancing to the quarterfinals round in the main draw. The duo earned their first ranked victory together on Sunday morning, knocking off No. 25 Jasmine Conway/Anna Zyryanova of Big Four rival NC State.
Bulger recorded the most solo victories of any Deac, ending with four.

"It was a really interesting Regional for us," said head coach Jeff Wyshner. "We had to pull three singles players and two doubles teams out before it even started, and all but Nevena Carton had to go through qualifying singles. Day by day, from Thursday to today, we had some very impressive showings! Whitley's 100th career win, a top-25 doubles win for her and Evie today against NC State, three players making it through qualifying play, to name a few. There were strong showings in the main draw or main draw consolation. Most importantly, we mostly played better than we did in September, and that's a good sign as we look ahead and try to get ready for the spring dual match season."

For just over two more weeks, Wake Forest will wait for draws to be unveiled for the ITA East Sectional Championships, held Nov. 6-9. The University of North Carolina will again host the event.
