Deacs Well Positioned after First Day of Hamptons Intercollegiate

10/6/2025 10:01:00 PM | Men's Golf

Junior Kyle Haas trails the individual leader by two strokes as the second round was suspended due to darkness.

EAST HAMPTON, N.Y.- A six-under second-round surge was cut short by darkness as the Wake Forest men's golf team competed in the opening two rounds of the Hamptons Intercollegiate on Monday afternoon.

The Demon Deacons, currently in third place at even par through 13-16 holes in the second round, remain well within reach of their third tournament victory of the season. Junior Kyle Haas is just two strokes off the individual lead at three-under par.

Gaining momentum, juniors Nicolas Prieto and Tom Haberer climbed the leaderboard as they head into the final day tied for 14th place. Prieto has paced the Deacs through the second round so far, shooting 3-under through 16 holes. Haberer, who had a bogey-free front nine in his second round, is one-under with four holes to play.

Having completed at least 13 holes, Wake Forest will resume second-round play on Tuesday at 8:25 a.m., with the third round set to begin immediately after the conclusion of the second.

Final Round Tee Times

Having completed at least 13 holes, Wake Forest will resume second-round play on Tuesday at 8:25 a.m., with the third round set to begin immediately after the conclusion of the second.

From Coach Haas:

"A very good team effort today. Starting on the front side with the wind is very difficult, you have to hang in there and make some birdies at the end. For the most part, we did a great job of realizing we will make those birdies at the end of the round. We have a chance to have the best round of the afternoon if we finish it off in the morning. Then, keep the momentum and try to post a score. It's supposed to be very windy tomorrow so we just need to hang around. There are some good teams ahead of us and a long way to go, but I'm proud of the fact that we are at one time 11-over and now back to even par. Go Deacs!"
