BOSTON, Mass. & WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest track and field program continued the opening weekend of their indoor track and field season with a pair of meets on Saturday afternoon, highlighted by junior Angelina Perez setting a new school record in the women's indoor 5000m.
The Ringwood, N.J., placed 10th at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener, posting a career-best time of 15:41.86 in the process. Fellow junior Brooke Wilson placed 22nd in the 5000m after clocking 15:51.97, while senior Mackenzie Hart crossed the line in 16:18.32 and graduate student Maisie Wilmer recorded a time of 16:20.76.
Meanwhile, senior Bryce Gilmore registered a time of 13:51.24 to take first place in the men's 5000m at the Visit Winston-Salem Kick-off. Additionally, the result helped move the Carlsbad, Calif., native into 10th on the all-time program record list for the men's indoor 5000m.
Sophomore Grant Morgenfeld added a runner-up performance in the men's 5000m after recording a career-best time of 13:56.90.

From the Staff
"Today brought a mix of triumphs and learning moments. We celebrated several new personal best, secured ACC standards, and watched Angelina Perez set a new school record in the 5K – an amazing achievement. We also had a few results that didn't fully reflect what we're capable of, but I'm confident our women will grow from them and continue to improve in the meets ahead." - Associate Head Coach Ashley Bastron
"Overall, I think the day was a net positive. The goal for this meet is a little different from athlete to athlete since some are capping off their cross country season while others are just opening up. Bryce Gilmore was a highlight and ran a really strong race that was paced perfectly by his teammate Paul Specht. Grant Morgenfeld really shined as well by dipping under the 14 minute barrier for the first time in his career." - Assistant Coach Brandon Hazouri
"Ryan [Harper] and Max [Marino] are off to a great start this season in the 400m. Ryan won his heat and set an indoor personal best time. Max also won his heat and set a lifetime best in his first ever indoor race. I'm excited to see what they can accomplish this season!" - Assistant Coach Lucas Hofer
"Overall, it was a solid performance for the throwers. There were clear signs of improvement, which shows that they're on their way to a successful season. I am very excited for what the future holds." - Assistant Coach Justin Clickett
"This was a strong start to the season and a vital step in finding our rhythm. It's always exciting to see the freshmen put on the uniform and compete for the first time. The jumps group showed a lot of promise, and we are looking forward to building on this foundation heading into tomorrow." - Assistant Coach Ryan Grinnell
