From the Staff
"This week was another good one for our squad. First, Rocky [Hansen] qualifying for Team USA in cross country was amazing. It shows the flexibility that our administration gives us to allow our elite athletes like Rocky to compete at the highest level. He will forgo the indoor season after the World Cross Country Championships in order to prepare for the outdoor season. As a whole, this was a strong weekend for us. It gave us an idea of what we need to work on over the break. I think our coaching staff has done a nice job to prepare the team throughout the fall. It's important that our athletes all finish their exams, get home safely and work hard over the break to keep the momentum. It will be great to see everyone compete again in January!" - Director of Track and Field and Cross Country John Hayes
"Overall, the women competed hard and doubled back well today. It was great to see Elizabeth [Whaley] achieve an ACC standard in the mile after coming up just short in the 3K yesterday. At this point in the fall, they've raced a lot and they've more than earned a break in training as they turn their attention to final exams this week." - Associate Head Coach Ashley Bastron
"It was great to get two wins in the men's and women's 1K today. It was really fun to watch Amy [Weybrecht] go for it like that and get rewarded with a top five all-time mark. It was also nice to get two nice personal-bests from Adam [Petitjean] and Andrew [Riley] in the men's race." - Assistant Coach Brandon Hazouri
"Today's performances were a step in the right direction. I am pleased with the adjustments we made during the competition. There's still plenty of work to be done. Progress is good, we just need to build upon that strong foundation." - Assistant Coach Justin Clickett
"There were a lot of positives to take away from this weekend. Collectively, as a group, we showed a lot of promise for things to come together down the road. Annie Thorkell opened up in the triple jump with a really strong performance and her best season opener to date. Julia Aere put together some great shot puts that will benefit her in future pentathlons, and Seren Rodgers got valuable speed work in the open 60 meters. The best part is that it is still early in the season, which gives us plenty of time to stay hungry, sharpen our technique and continue building momentum." - Assistant Coach Ryan Grinnell
