Redshirt senior forward Demeara Hinds led the way for the Demon Deacons, recording her fourth career double-double performance with 18 points and 13 rebounds.
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Redshirt senior forward Demeara Hinds had a career night in the 97-68 defeat to No. 25 Florida State Sunday night at Donald L. Tucker Center in Tallahassee, Fla.
Hinds led the way for the Demon Deacons (8-14, 1-10 ACC), recording her fourth career double-double performance and the second of the season. Hinds ended the night matching her career-high of 18 points while also having a career-high 13 rebounds in the defeat. She was efficient from the field with a 9-of-15 shooting performance. Only sophomore guard Rylie Theuerkauf has had more field goals in a game this season for the Deacs.
Hinds had a strong opening half when she scored 10 points on 5-of-7 field goals while also leading the team with five rebounds as she was well on her way to a double-double.
Joining Hinds in double figures were three other Demon Deacons as senior guard Elise Williams, senior guard Raegyn Conley and Theuerkauf all found their way to double digits in the second half.
Conley shot an efficient 4-of-5 from the field with her lone miss coming from three while also grabbing five rebounds. For the second-straight game, she tied her career-high with four assists.
Theuerkauf posted 11 points in the loss while pulling down a career-high tying five rebounds and Williams poured in 10 points, moving her to 1,279 career points which is the 15th most points in program history.
The Demon Deacons also did a great job of effecting the shot of All-ACC selection and the nation's second-leading scorer in Ta'Niya Latson. She finished the night shooting just 8-of-23 from the field and was well below 40 percent until late in the game.
How It Happened
"This game comes down to the defensive end of the floor. That starts on the perimeter and that keeps happening and it was the difference tonight. We have to be better at taking away the three and being able to limit teams off the bounce. We weren't able to limit their possession or take away the paint or the three. We did a good job on Latson and Timpson in limiting them but we didn't take away anything from anyone else. We are better than what we are showing on the defensive end and that has to be better to win games. It will be hard to win games when we give up 90 points against veteran ranked teams. The offensive end has been a bright spot. Demeara led us tonight with a career-high 18 points and a career-high 13 rebounds. We needed to probably get her the ball more tonight cause she was huge for us. We need this bye week to get better on the defensive end. The hope is we have learned that in the last two games and we will take those learning lessons into practice as we prepare for another tough road environment at Syracuse." - Megan Gebbia
