The North Carolina native comes to DEACTOWN following three seasons with 2024 national champion Penn State.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest head volleyball coach Jeff Hulsmeyer announced the addition of Tina Readling to his coaching staff on Thursday. Holding over 15 years of experience at the collegiate level, Readling will join the Demon Deacons in the position of the Triplette Family Volleyball Assistant Coach.
"I first want to express my gratitude and appreciation to Jeff Triplette for his support of this position and Wake Forest volleyball," said Hulsmeyer. "It means so much, and allows me to bring in quality candidates like Tina Readling. Tina brings a proven winner at the highest level in our sports from her previous role at Penn State to Wake Forest. She is an outstanding person who is known for her dedication and building relationships in recruiting, with the fanbase, and among the staff, players and families in the volleyball program. Her work ethic is second to none, she is an outstanding trainer in the gym and will help us in all areas of ball control and building a team culture of passion and commitment. Her roots run deep in North Carolina from her years as the Associate Head Coach at Elon and I'm so grateful for her teaching background that gives her such an appreciation for the academic and athletic experience our players will be getting here. Tina represents the first big "get" for our program that will turn some heads within the conference and nationally. I couldn't be more excited to have her and her husband, Josh, as part of the Wake Forest volleyball family."
"There is nothing more beautiful than when God orders your steps perfectly in a way that you could never have planned on your own," said Readling. "So many loyal people worked behind the scenes to connect me with Coach Hulsmeyer and with Wake Forest University. I am blessed by all that those folks and Jeff have done to provide the opportunity for me to be the next Triplette Family Assistant Coach for Wake Forest volleyball. I am also grateful to Coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley and her entire Penn State program for giving me their full support as I step back into an active coaching role.
"I also want to thank John Currie and Lindsey Babcock for their direction and clear vision for Demon Deacons volleyball. Jeff knows what success looks like in this conference and in student-athletes, and I am looking forward to working alongside him and the rest of our staff to get to know these young women better and to help them achieve excellence in all areas for themselves, for each other, for the program, and for the University. My husband and I are excited to be a part of the Wake Forest University community and I am immensely appreciative to the statewide volleyball community for welcoming me back home."
Readling spent the last three seasons at Penn State, serving as Director of Operations for the Nittany Lions volleyball program. Her day-to-day planning, evaluation and relationship-building expertise all played a major part in Penn State going on to capture the 2024 NCAA Championship this past December.
Prior to her time at Penn State, Readling spent 10 seasons on the women's volleyball staff at Elon University. She was elevated to Associate Head Coach in 2015 after rejoining the Phoenix as an assistant coach in 2012. Elon won 128 matches during that stretch. Readling's final season in 2021 involved helping lead the team to a program-best 11-5 conference record in the Colonial Athletic Association, ultimately advancing to the championship match of the CAA tournament. Haylie Clark was tabbed the CAA Setter of the Year, joining Leah Daniel and Jenn Krzeminski as a Phoenix trio that earned All-CAA honors. Elon also led the CAA in team hitting percentage (.268) through conference play that same season.
Readling handled numerous responsibilities at Elon, serving six seasons as the recruiting coordinator, seven as the offensive coordinator and all 10 as the serving coach. She helped the Phoenix achieve numerous program firsts – including their first American Volleyball Coaches' Association (AVCA) All-American, first AVCA All-Region selection, first CAA Player of the Year and first CAA Rookie of the Year. In total, Elon racked up 10 All-CAA postseason honors during Readling's tenure while earning several CAA and COSIDA District III academic accolades.
Readling's collegiate coaching career began as a volunteer assistant at Elon in 2010, when the Phoenix won the SoCon North Division regular season title. The following year saw her spend a season at Duke, helping the Blue Devils reach the 2011 NCAA Tournament and producing three All-ACC players, in addition to the 2011 ACC Defensive Player of the Year, before she made a return to Elon.
Prior to her first stint with the Phoenix, Readling assisted locally with Carolina Region High Performance and Piedmont Volleyball Club, working with multiple age groups within the club volleyball scene. Additionally, she worked as the assistant volleyball director at the Greensboro Sportsplex, mainly overseeing operations of Sportsplex Volleyball Club and the youth development programs while directing all adult volleyball programming, including Greensboro Grass Volleyball tournaments.
Readling has served in leadership roles for both the AVCA and USA Volleyball. From 2017-22, she was a CAA representative for the AVCA assistant coaches' committee before becoming a convention presenter and panelist for three years. A member of the Carolina Region Volleyball Association Board for USA Volleyball, Readling was honored with the regional Meritorious Service Award in 2021. She has been a board member since 2010.
A native of Haw River, N.C., Readling graduated from Bryan College in 1999 with a bachelor's degree in English Education. She was named the Female Athlete of the Year at Bryan following her senior season with the volleyball team.
