Four Demon Deacons sit inside the top-25

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Wake Forest men's golf team wrapped up day one of the General James Hackler Championship at the Dunes Golf & Beach Club on Sunday.

Through the first 18 holes, the Deacs finished round one in eighth place with a score of 293 (+5) with four players sitting inside the top-25.

Scotty Kennon, Marshall Meisel, Jakob Melin and Jorge Hao all hold a share of 24th place, carding round one scores of 72 at even par.

After a bogey on hole 5, Kennon fired three consecutive birdies before the turn to lower his score to two-under. Meisel went bogey-free on the front nine notching two birdies, while Melin tallied two birdies on holes 12 and 15 to improve his score by two strokes.

Sophomore Kyle Haas ended the first round of the General James Hackler Championship tied for 71st place at five-over par, while sophomore Tom Haberer is currently tied for 84th place at seven-over par.

Teams will play another 18 holes for round two on Monday, March 17, with tee times starting at 8:10 a.m. The Deacs will be in the first group off the first tee with players from Kent State and North Florida.

From Coach Haas:

"Not the finish we wanted today, both as a team and a couple of the players. We will be one of the first groups off tomorrow, with a little less wind and some fresh greens. The score was not indicative of how we played. Lots of good things, but making a few more putts will be helpful. Always positive about this team, they will find a way. Go Deacs!"
