Deacons Advance to First Place Match at Old Barnwell Derby

Wake Forest defeated No. 2 and No. 6-seeded teams to reach round three.
AIKEN, S.C. - After two rounds and 36 holes of tournament play, No. 9 Wake Forest women's golf has advanced to tomorrow's first-place match at Old Barnwell Derby in Aiken, S.C after defeating No. 20 Auburn 3-2 and No. 2 Florida State 3-1-1.
The Deacons began their first round against the Tigers, with junior Anne-Sterre den Dunnen going 1UP after she started her first nine of the day with a tie. Senior Carolina Chacarra went into the second half of the day up three points and finished 3&2 for round one while sophomore Macy Pate grabbed a third point for Wake Forest and finished 2&1.
Following their morning success, Pate and den Dunnen clinched Wake Forest's first two points against No. 2 Florida State, going 4&3 and 3&2 respectively.
The Seminoles tied things up on the back nine, but freshman Chloe Kovelesky clinched the win for the Deacs. After trailing by two points through the first nine holes, she fought back to advance the Demon Deacons to the first-place match tomorrow morning.
Wake Forest will take on No. 4 South Carolina in round three of tournament play with the first tee-off at 9:24 ET.
