Scotty Kennon carded the lowest round of the day for the Deacs in round two
PALM CITY, FLA.- Behind a strong second round performance from senior Scotty Kennon, the Wake Forest men's golf team has completed two rounds against a nationally ranked field at the Floridian. Through 36 holes, the Demon Deacons ended day one with a team score of 575 (+7), just four strokes behind No. 21 Texas Tech.
The 16 team field includes 11 teams that sit inside the top-25 of the national rankings, 12 of which have won at least one team title this season.
Kennon started off hot in his second round, tallying 6 birdies through his first 11 holes. After shooting three over-par in his first round, Kennon bounced back in round two carding a low four-under 67 in his second.
Carding the lowest round of the day for the Deacs, Kennon goes into the final round of tournament play tied for 27th place at one-under.
In the opening round, junior Jakob Melin and senior Collin Adams turned in two under-par rounds to help pace the Deacs early in the day. Both Melin and Adams hold a share of 50th place at two-over.
After two rounds, freshman Jorge Hao sits tied for 72nd place at seven-over par, while senior Marshall Meisel is currently tied for 79th place at nine-over par.
Wake Forest will begin the final round of the Valspar Collegiate Invitational at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday.
