Rocky Hansen Surges to Victory, Breaking Meet, Facility, and Program Record

At the Raleigh Relays, Hansen stormed to victory in the 5000 meter race.

RALEIGH, N.C. - After a record-setting indoor season, sophomore Rocky Hansen opened his outdoor campaign in Raleigh, N.C., Thursday evening, winning the men's 5,000 meters.

Hansen broke the meet, facility, and Wake Forest outdoor records with a personal-best time of 13:22.06.

Prior to his record-breaking performance in the event, the meet and facility record had been held at 13:24.78, set in 2022 by Christian Noble of Lee University in Tennessee.

Corey Campbell, competing unattached, also raced in the 5000 meters, clocking a dominant 13:58.42.

Along with Hansen and Campbell's outstanding performances, the Demon Deacons shined in several events on the track and in the field. wIn the women's javelin, Julia Pinter returned for her second competition of the season, posting a personal-best mark of 43.71 meters, while Rosalind Gergely delivered a distance of 41.89 meters.

In the men's 1500m, freshman Wes Shipsey clocked 3:43.78, while sophomore Bryce Gilmore ran the event in a personal-best time of 3:47.38.

After Hansen competed in the 5000m, the Deacs concluded the day with the 10,000m. Joe O'Brien led the pack, placing second in 28:15.43. O'Brien now ranks second on the Wake Forest all-time list. Charlie Sprott posted a personal-best 28:22.92 in the event, while Jackson Keefer finished in 28:59.71.
