Tied for second place, sophomore Tom Haberer is just one stroke off of the individual lead

AMHERST, Va.- With play halted late in their opening round, the Wake Forest men's golf team ended round one of the NCAA Amherst Regional tied for eighth place with a score of 277 (+4), leaving two holes left to play. Just four shots out of fifth place, Wake Forest sits ahead of No. 1 seeded LSU.

Teams will come back Monday morning at 7:30 a.m. to conclude the first round. Following the completion of the first round, round two of the NCAA Amherst Regional will begin around 10:30 a.m.

Wake Forest was led by Tom Haberer on Sunday, as the sophomore recorded six birdies to finish three-under on the day. The Hildesheim, Germany native ends round one tied for second place and is only one stroke off the individual lead.

Going two-under on his final nine holes of the day, junior Jakob Melin carded an under-par opening round of 69 (-1). Melin heads into round two holding a share of 11th place.

Senior Scotty Kennon finished the day at four-over par and sophomore Kyle Haas is six-over par entering the second round. Kennon is tied for 60th place, while Haas is tied for 68th.

Due to darkness, the opening round of the NCAA Amherst Regional was suspended. Senior Marshall Meisel will complete the last two holes of his first round tomorrow morning at 7:30 a.m. before the start of the second round. Meisel currently sits at four-over par.

From Coach Haas:

"The team made a nice run late in the night after a very long day. There will be many ebbs and flows the next couple of days and hopefully we will be able to play with the weather coming in. Great round today by Tom with a 67 and Jakob with a 69. They held us in there, and others will follow in the next couple of days. Go Deacs!"

Second Round Tee Times

Play at the NCAA Amherst Regional has been halted for the day due to darkness. Play will resume at 7:30 a.m., with round two set to start around 10:30 a.m.
