
Wake Forest Adds Mekhi Mason To 2025-26 Squad

The rising senior comes to Winston-Salem after shooting 40 percent from three with Washington last season.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Wake Forest men's basketball has announced the addition of sharpshooting guard Mekhi Mason to the 2025-26 season. Last season, Mason appeared in 31 games with 20 starts for Washington and previously earned a Conference USA All-Freshman Team selection while at Rice.
"Mekhi can really shoot the ball. He is a proven scorer at the high-major level who brings size and experience to our backcourt," said head coach Steve Forbes. "Mekhi recorded back-to-back 20 point games this year vs. Penn State and Rutgers, while scoring 19 on the road at Iowa and USC. Mekhi has the desire and will to compete, improve and win this upcoming year. We are excited that he chose to be a Demon Deacon!"
For his career to date, Mason has appeared in 98 games with 87 starts to average 11.2 points per game on 41.3 percent shooting and 144 made three pointers. Additionally, the Gilbert, Ariz., native averages 3.1 rebound and 2.1 assists per game.
Last season with Washington, Mason averaged 9.9 points per game in more than 24 minutes per contest. In Big Ten play, Mason averaged 10.6 points per game including a 15.4 average over his final seven appearances. He shot 42.5 percent from the field and 40.2 percent from behind the arc including a career-high six threes in a 20-point performance against Penn State in February.
In total, Mason reached the 20-point mark four times during the 2024-25 campaign.
Mason spent his first two seasons at Rice, where he earned numerous honors including being named to the 2023 Conference USA All-Freshman Team.
As a sophomore during the 2023-24 season, Mason was one of three Rice players to start all 32 of the Owls' games as he was second on the team in points per game (14.0), assists per game (2.8), total steals (30) and three-point field goal percentage (34.3).
The 6-foot-5 guard reached double-figures in scoring 23 times and contributed a career-high 30 points on 11-of-19 shooting against UTSA en route to American Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors.
As a freshman, Mason started all 35 of his appearances as he earned a conference-high four C-USA Freshman of the Week selections. He averaged 9.9 points, 3.1 rebounds and 1.9 assists while leading the team in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 37.5 percent.
