Wake Forest Rises on Leaderboard in Round Two at NCAA Championship
5/25/2025 1:13:00 AM | Men's Golf
Marshall Meisel tied for the lowest single-round score in the second round
CARLSBAD, Calif.- Elevating up the leaderboard, the Wake Forest men's golf team finished the second round of stroke play at the NCAA Championship in a three way tie for fifteenth place.
The Deacs will open tomorrow's third round on the cutline tied with Vanderbilt and Texas A&M, as the top 15 teams at the end of Sunday will move to Monday's final stroke play round.
Tying for the lowest single-round score in the second round, senior Marshall Meisel went five-under on the day to boost the Deacs up the leaderboard.
Meisel started fast with birdies on his first two holes. After a bogey on hole 14, the senior went on to fire four more birdies, going bogey-free on his final thirteen holes. Meisel currently sits at 2-under par and is tied for 12th place.
Sophomore Kyle Haas shot an even par 72 in his second round, turning in his second counting round of the week, while sophomore Tom Haberer shot a four-over 76 on Saturday to finish the day at six-over.
Senior Scotty Kennon and junior Jakob Melin both had a five-over 77 to round out the lineup.
For the third round of stroke play, Wake Forest will tee off tomorrow starting at 2:50 p.m. ET with Texas A&M off hole No. 1.
From Coach Haas:
"We had the low round of the afternoon wave which is always a great thing. Heck of a round by Marshall with 67. We're in a good spot heading into tomorrow. We need to play a solid round again and stay close to that top eight cut line. Looks like we will play in the afternoon because of the tiebreak, which could be a good thing. Go Deacs!"
