Demon Deacons Selected as No. 2 Seed in Knoxville Regional

Wake Forest will be joined by Tennessee, Cincinnati and Miami (OH) in the NCAA Regional.

INDIANAPOLIS – The Wake Forest baseball team was selected to the 2025 NCAA Baseball Tournament as the No. 2 seed in the Knoxville Regional, as announced on ESPN2 on Monday afternoon. 
 
This is the Demon Deacons' 17th all-time NCAA Tournament appearance and marks the Deacs fourth-straight postseason appearance, the longest streak since reaching five-straight tournaments from 1998 to 2002. 
 
Wake Forest is one of just 17 teams to make the postseason in each of the last four seasons. 
 
The Demon Deacons has made three College World Series appearances, highlighted by winning the program's first national championship in 1955 and a run to the semifinals in 2023. Overall, Wake Forest hold an impressive 52-35 record at the national tournament. 
 
In addition to the second-seeded Demon Deacons (36-20), the Knoxville Regional will include No. 14 national seed Tennessee (43-16), No. 3 seed Cincinnati (32-24) and No. 4 seed Miami (OH) (35-21).
 
Wake Forest will open NCAA Tournament play against the Bearcats on Friday, May 30 at 1 p.m. on ESPN+ in the first game of the regional. The Volunteers and RedHawks will face off at 6 p.m. ET.
 
The Knoxville Regional is paired with the Fayetteville Regional. The winners of those two regionals will play in a Super Regional the following weekend (Friday, June 6 - Monday, June 9). In addition to No. 3 national seed Arkansas, the regional features Kansas, Creighton and North Dakota State.

Regular Season Highlights
  • Wake Forest reached the 30-win mark for the fourth-straight season, the longest such streak since the Deacs won 30 or more in six-straight seasons from 1997-2002.
  • The Demon Deacons are one of two programs to win at least 15 conference games in each of the last four seasons, joined by only Virginia in that regard.
  • Since the start of the 2022 season, Wake Forest has totaled 465 home runs, which leads the ACC and ranks third nationally during that time. 
    • The Deacs are one of just four teams nationally to have 100 or more home runs from 2022-24, joined by Tennessee, Florida, and Campbell. 
      • With four home runs against Cal at the ACC Tournament, Wake Forest and Tennessee are the only schools to reach 100 home runs in each of the last four seasons.
    • Wake Forest has belted 100 home runs over 56 games to lead the ACC and tied for 11th in the nation entering Regionals
  • The Demon Deacons are one of just 14 teams over the 100-homer mark to this point of the season, led by Winnay's 14 homers. 
  • Wake Forest has left the yard at least once in all but 10 games to this point in the 2025 campaign. 
  • The Deacs are 32-13 when hitting a home run and 21-6 when hitting multiple homers.
  • For the fourth-straight year, at least three Wake Forest baseball student-athletes were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference teams, with Blake Morningstar (1st Team), Kade Lewis (2nd Team) and Marek Houston (3rd Team) all selected to the all-conference team. 
    • The Demon Deacons have now placed at least one athlete on the First-Team ballot in nine of the last 11 All-ACC teams. 
  • The Demon Deacons have seen productivity up and down the lineup, with all nine hitters in the starting lineup recording a hit in the same game on six occasions, doing so against Elon (2/25), Notre Dame (3/7), Coastal Carolina (3/11), Virginia Tech (3/29), Pitt (5/9) and most recently Cal (5/21). Wake Forest has tripled the 2024 squad, which achieved the feat just two times in 60 contests.
