Hansen placed second in the event with a time of 13:07.77, marking the seventh-fastest performance in collegiate history and the fourth-fastest outdoors performance in collegiate history.

LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Competing in a mostly professional field, junior Rocky Hansen broke the Wake Forest program record while competing in the 5000m at the Sound Running Sunset Tour at Occidental College on Saturday night.

Hansen finished the race with a personal-best time of 13:07.77 to help propel him to a second-place finish in the event only behind Oklahoma State's Brian Musau.

Hansen also set numerous records in the process on Saturday night, including breaking his own school record for the fastest time in the 5000m for either an indoor or outdoor event. The Hendersonville, N.C., native had previously set the program record for both indoor and outdoor competition during the 2025 season, including his 13:12.65 performance at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships, which helped him finish third overall and earn First Team All-American honors.

Along with breaking the Wake Forest record, Hansen also now ranks as the third fastest American collegian in the event all-time in both indoor and outdoor competition, as well as the fastest American collegian in the outdoor 5000m ever following his result in California. Additionally, the time ranks fourth all-time in outdoor competition in collegiate history, and seventh all-time in both indoor and outdoor events.
