The Deacs once again kept a clean sheet as Lola Ressler logged her first career goal with a 32nd-minute strike.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Highlighted by a career-first goal for sophomore Lola Ressler, the No. 10 ranked Wake Forest women's soccer team (2-0-0, 0-0-0 ACC) picked up their second victory of the 2025 season with a 1-0 win over the LSU Tigers (1-1-0, 0-0-0 SEC) on Sunday, Aug. 17 at Spry Stadium.

The match remained quiet through the first portion of the half, but the Deacons broke through in the 32nd minute with a first collegiate goal from sophomore Lola Ressler and a career-first assist for freshman Kylie Maxwell

Wake Forest outshot the Tigers 11-8, including three shots on target. Along with a strong performance from the backline, redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Valentina Amaral recorded her ninth career clean sheet – and the second of the season – with two saves in the shutout.

Since the 2020-21 season, Wake Forest is 16-0-2 at home against non-conference opponents in regular-season action. In those 18 games, the Deacs have outscored opponents 50-2.

  • The Demon Deacons tested the Tigers' goalkeeper early, recording the first three shots of the contest.
  • Freshman Kylie Maxwell launched the second shot on goal of the match but was unable to find the back of the net.
  • The Deacs got on the board first, as sophomore Lola Ressler found the back of the net in the 32nd minute with help from Maxwell and redshirt sophomore Sierra Sythe.
    • This is the first career goal for the Winter Garden, Fla., native and the first career assist for Maxwell.
  • Through the first 45 minutes, Wake Forest maintained 54 percent possession and outshot the Tigers 5-2.
  • Out of the break, the Deacons continued to dominate the pitch, adding three shots on goal.
  • LSU recorded its first shot of the contest in the 63rd minute.
  • The Tigers created scoring opportunities in the 67th and 68th minutes with back-to-back free kicks, but redshirt sophomore Valentina Amaral held strong between the posts to keep LSU scoreless.
  • Amaral prevented an equalizer in the 77th minute on a 1v1 in the box.
  • Wake Forest held strong in the final minutes to defeat the Tigers 1-0.

From Coach da Luz
"I've challenged our young team with a tough schedule and we responded with a six-point weekend. We have made progress in every area of the game, produced two shutouts and created multiple chances. Valentina has been incredible in goal and Amaya Dawkins has been super consistent in dominating performances. We have another tough week coming up but we will be ready."

Up Next
