
Heyison Closes Out USATF Para Nationals with First Place Finish in Women’s Discus Final

The Adamstown, Md., native earned first place after recording a distance of 37.00 meters.
EUGENE, Ore. – Following an impressive showing during the women's mixed shot put final on Thursday afternoon, rising junior and Wake Forest Track and Field team member Samantha Heyison closed out competition at the USATF Para Nationals with a first place finish in the women's discus final on Saturday afternoon.
After recording a throw of 32.94 meters on her first attempt, Heyison notched a throw of 37.00 meters on her third attempt to take control of the top spot. Heyison would hold onto first place the rest of the way, as her best throw was 3.60 meters further than the second-place finisher.
With her first place finish, Heyison finished the USATF Para Nationals with two top-three finishes, having previously placed third during the women's mixed shot put final on Thursday afternoon.
The Adamstown, Md., native had a solid sophomore campaign during the 2025 outdoor season, having recorded a personal-best discus throw of 42.26 meters en route to a ninth place finish at the Webb Davidson Meet. She also recorded a top-15 finish in the discus throw at the Wake Forest Invitational, adding a throw of 39.81 meters to place 12th.
Heyison, who represented Team USA during the 2024 Paralympics in Paris last summer, will now set her sights on the 2025 Para World Championships, which will be held in New Delhi, India from Sept. 27 to Oct. 5 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
