At the back-end of the PGA TOUR season, Young secured his long-awaited breakthrough victory.
GREENSBORO, N.C.- After seven runner-up finishes, Cameron Young claimed his first PGA TOUR victory on Sunday, capturing the Wyndham Championship by six strokes at Sedgefield Country Club.
After three under-par rounds, including a bogey-free 65 in his second, Young entered Sunday's final round with a five-shot lead.
Although Young began Sunday with a bogey after coming up just short of the green on his approach at the first hole, he quickly bounced back. He followed with five consecutive birdies, effortlessly rebuilding his eight-shot lead.
He made the turn at 4-under for the round, capping the front nine with a clutch par save at the ninth after a tough approach from thick rough near the cart path.
Despite some trouble late in his round, carding back-to-back bogeys on holes No. 16 and 17, it ultimately had no impact. Young closed with a final-round 68 and cruised to victory.
Young put on a flawless performance from Thursday through to Sunday, leading the field with 27 total birdies and only recording 5 bogeys.
Young carves his name into history as the 1,000th winner on the PGA TOUR. Additionally, Young is the fourth Demon Deacon to win at the Wyndham Championship.
- Cameron Young (2025)
- Webb Simpson (2011)
- Scott Hoch (2001)
- Lanny Wadkins (1983)
Young also became the 23rd first-time winner of the Wyndham Championship, alongside former Demon Deacon Webb Simpson.
Entering the week at No. 44 in the Official World Golf Rankings, Young had already guaranteed his place in the FedExCup Playoffs. But with Sunday's win, he climbs to No. 16 in the FedExCup standings and rises to No. 21 in the OWGR.
Additionally, the win secures a spot for Young in the season-ending TOUR Championship, making his return for the first time since his rookie season.
