The duo led Wake Forest to its first win over North Carolina since 2017.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – After powering Wake Forest to a dramatic double-overtime win over No. 2 North Carolina, goalkeeper Ellie Todd and junior Mia Schoenbeck have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, respectively.
Todd was the backbone of the Demon Deacon defense, recording 11 saves to anchor the 2-1 victory at Kentner Stadium. Facing one of the nation's top attacks, she turned away chance after chance, marking the third double-digit save performance of her career and the second-highest single-game total by an ACC goalkeeper this season. With 19 saves across the last two matches, Todd has raised her season total to 32 saves, ranking second in the conference.
The honor also marks the second time in her career to capture back-to-back Player of the Week honors.
On the offensive end, Schoenbeck delivered the game-winner, scoring the golden goal to hand North Carolina its first loss of the season. Schoenbeck has totaled nine goals and one assist on the year to tie for fourth in the ACC in goals. She has scored four times in the last four matches, including Friday's walk-off strike, and continues to emerge as one of the league's most dangerous scorers.
Together, Todd and Schoenbeck's clutch performances propelled Wake Forest to its third consecutive ranked victory and a perfect start in ACC play.
The duo and the rest of the Demon Deacons are back in action at No. 18 Louisville on Friday night. Push back is set for 6:30 p.m. ET on the ACC Network.
