Trio of Demon Deacon Student-Athletes & Coach Steve Forbes to Represent Wake Forest at ACC Tip-Off

Ahead of the 2025-26 season, the trio of Demon Deacon players and Coach Forbes will represent the Demon Deacons at the annual showcase of ACC men’s basketball.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Wake Forest graduate forward Tre'Von Spillers, senior guards Nate Calmese and Mekhi Mason and head coach Steve Forbes are set to represent the Demon Deacons at the annual ACC Tip-Off event on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at the The Hilton Charlotte Uptown.

The ACC Network will provide coverage of the entirety of the three days of events for the ACC Tip-Off and the Deacs' press conference will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.

Tre'Von Spillers | Graduate | Forward
Following a 32-start campaign in his first year with the Deacs in 2024-25, Spillers will represent Wake Forest in Charlotte. Last year, he led the Demon Deacons in offensive rebounds (88), defensive rebounds (155) and rebounds per contest (7.6) while logging five double-doubles. 

At App State, the Charleston, S.C., native earned first-team All-Sun Belt honors and was named to the Division I All-District 23 first-team. 

Nate Calmese | Senior | Guard
Calmese joins the Demon Deacons for his senior season following stops at Washington State, Washington and Lamar. Last year at Washington State, the Gilbert, Ariz., native started all 33 of his appearances and earned All-West Coast Conference Honorable Mention honors as he paced the Cougars in points per game (15.2) and made field goals (207). 

While at Lamar, Calmese was the Southland Conference Freshman of the Year as he ranked third in the conference in scoring at 17.6 points per game. 

Mekhi Mason | Senior | Guard
Mason comes to Winston-Salem following stops at Washington and Rice, where he was named to the Conference USA All-Freshman Team during the 2022-23 season. 

During his junior campaign at Washington, Mason averaged more than 10 points per game in Big Ten play including an average of 15.4 points per game over the final seven contests. Additionally, he shot 42.5 percent from the field and 40.2 percent from three.

During that four-year span, Wake Forest is also the only ACC program with a first-team All-ACC selection every year while Alondes Williams and Tyree Appleby each earned an ACC Player of the Year selection. 

A Look At The Squad
The Deacs' 2025-26 roster features a mixture of strong veteran returners along with a talented incoming class of transfers and freshmen. 

Following a season in which he started all 32 games and led the Demon Deacons in rebounding, Spillers returns for his second season while Harris and junior Omaha Biliew will look to build on their debut seasons in Winston-Salem. 

A strong group of incoming transfers include all-conference selections Cooper Schwieger and Nate Calmese, reigning Summit League Freshman of the Year Sebastian Akins, 2023 Conference USA All-Freshman Team honoree Mekhi Mason and Purdue standout Myles Colvin along with rising freshmen Isaac Carr, Jaylen Cross and Dimitrije Kovacevic
