This marks his second ACC weekly honor after being named to the Doubles Team of the Week with Luca Pow earlier in the year.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Wake Forest men's tennis freshman Mees Rottgering has been named the ACC Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday, following a perfect week that featured three singles victories — all in straight sets — while helping power the Demon Deacons to multiple top-tier wins.
Rottgering played a pivotal role in Wake Forest's marquee 4-2 road victory over No. 4 Texas, battling past No. 25 Sebastian Eriksson, 6-3, 7-6(3), to clinch the team win after rallying through a second-set tiebreaker.
Just two days later, the Dutch freshman delivered again during ITA Kickoff Weekend, securing a 6-3, 6-1 win over Virginia Tech's Eyal Shumilov on court three to help Wake Forest cruise to a 4-0 sweep.
Rottgering capped off his standout week with another dominant straight-sets victory the following day, defeating Vanderbilt's Jack Satterfield, 6-2, 6-2, as the Demon Deacons once again earned a 4-0 decision and punched their ticket to the ITA National Team Indoor Championships for the fifth consecutive season.
The honor marks Rottgering's second ACC weekly recognition of the young season after previously being named ACC Doubles Team of the Week alongside Luca Pow following opening weekend play.
