Deacs Open Weekend at Camel City Sprints

Freshman Annie Thorkell jumped into eighth-place in program history in the women’s long jump as she recorded a distance of 5.85 meters to claim her first collegiate victory.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest track and field program competed in their first of two meets at the JDL Fast Track this weekend as the Demon Deacons wrapped up competition at the Camel City Sprints on Friday afternoon.
Freshman Annie Thorkell opened the day by claiming her first collegiate victory in the women's long jump. The Nyhamnslage, Sweden, native recorded a personal-best distance of 5.85 meters to clinch first place in the event and move her into eighth all-time in Wake Forest history.
Meanwhile, sophomore Savannah Simmons also finished inside the top-10 in the women's long jump as she logged a jump of 5.66 meters.
Senior Casey Sullivan ended the day of competition for the Deacs as she threw a personal-best distance of 15.22 meters in the women's weight throw.
