Miami and Florida State come to town to take on the Demon Deacons.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest returns to Winston-Salem for its first home ACC action of the season. The Demon Deacons will welcome No. 39 Miami (5-2, 2-0 ACC) to Winston-Salem on Friday, March 6 (5 p.m.) before hosting Florida State (4-7, 0-2 ACC) on Sunday (11 a.m.). The Deacs enter the weekend looking for their first conference win after falling to No. 21 Stanford and No. 7 Cal last weekend.
Wake Forest has done a good job defending its home court this season; the Deacs are 7-1 at home. They have a chance to surpass last season's home win total (8) with a pair of victories this weekend. The last time the Deacs hosted, they defeated App State, 4-2 on Feb. 22. Evie Oxford and Sankavi Gownder were the standout performers in that match, recording a doubles win as a pair before posting straight-set singles wins.
Wake Forest comes in at No. 66 nationally according to the ITA's latest poll. The Deacs are one of 14 ACC schools listed in the top 75.
Defending Home Turf
Wake Forest is 7-1 (.875) at home this season, a mark that ranks in the top half of the ACC. The Deacs are just one win shy of tying last season's home win total (8) with seven home matches still to play. They are on a two-match home winning streak entering the weekend.
Freshman Phenom
Evie Oxford has gotten off to a great start to her collegiate career. She completed her tenth singles match of the season with a win at Cal this weekend, improving to 9-1. Oxford leads the team in singles wins and win percentage and is second in doubles wins. She was recognized as the ACC Freshman of the Week for her efforts earlier this season, becoming the first Demon Deacon since Krystal Blanch in 2023 to earn the award.
The Matches
Friday, March 6 vs. Miami (5-2).
The Demon Deacons headed out west for a challenging ACC road trip. They fell to No. 21 Stanford (4-0) on Feb. 27 and No. 7 Cal (4-1) on Feb. 28. An Oxford singles win accounted for the only point of the weekend. The Deacs were dealing with a depleted roster in both matches, with just six players active and available over the weekend.
Up Next
Wake Forest will remain at home for an intrastate battle against No. 9 North Carolina State (9-4) on Wednesday, March 11. The teams did not meet last season.
