Deacs Fall in First Round of ACC Match Play

Wake Forest turns their attention to NCAA Regionals, beginning on May 11.
WILMINGTON, N.C. - Despite mounting a comeback effort towards the closing stages of the match, Wake Forest women's golf fell to North Carolina, 3-2 in the first round of ACC Championship match play at Porters Neck Country Club.
The Tar Heels grabbed the first two points of the match, but the Deacs evened things up after the turn.
Freshman Cartoon Rujiranan claimed her first match point victory of her career, defeating Carolina's Southerland 1UP. The Chonburi, Thailand-native fell down by two holes at the turn, but worked her way back from the deficit with three birdies on the back nine to take the first point.
As Rujiranan grabbed the Demon Deacons first match, graduate student Morgan Ketchum took the second point for Wake Forest with a 3&1 victory on hole 17. The Tar Heels remained in front as the match came down to sophomore Chloe Kovelesky on hole 18. Although carding an eagle on hole 17 and battling her way back from being three down, North Carolina ultimately claimed the final point to move onto the semifinals.
