Peter Stewart Named Volleyball Assistant Coach

The Florida native brings years of collegiate and USA Volleyball coaching experience to Winston-Salem.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Wake Forest head volleyball coach Jeff Hulsmeyer announced an update to his coaching staff on Thursday, as Peter Stewart will join the program as an assistant coach.
"I'm thrilled to add Peter to our coaching staff," said Coach Hulsmeyer. "He has built so much trust, respect, and connection between himself and the players he has coached over the years. That connection is so important as we continue to help our players grow and develop on and off the court. I have known Peter for many years. His character, integrity, and work ethic match the high standards so prevalent at Wake Forest. I'm also excited to add someone with the experience of the power and speed in the men's game to our staff as we continue to emphasize those qualities in our climb up the ACC and national standings. I am very grateful to the many qualified candidates that reached out to us in this process. As a program on the move, at such an elite university with a Power Four athletics experience, Wake Forest continues to draw the highest caliber talent."

Stewart comes to DEACTOWN after spending the last four years at Belmont Abbey College, where he served as an assistant coach for the Crusaders' men's volleyball team. He played a key role in developing and recruiting student-athletes while also assisting with administrative duties and promotional items.
Belmont-Abbey enjoyed notable success during Stewart's time on campus, being crowned the Conference Carolinas champions in back-to-back seasons during 2024 and 2025 while also making the NCAA Division I Men's Volleyball quarterfinals those same seasons. Stewart helped a number of Crusaders attain individual accolades, combining for 18 all-conference selections, two All-Americans, 31 All-Academic picks, three Elite 23 Awards and numerous weekly honors.
Stewart has also spent time as a USA Volleyball coach since November 2021, having primarily worked with young athletes for the southern region while representing nationally. Within the travel scene, he has been involved with multiple amateur volleyball clubs and academies across the East Coast.
During his days as an undergraduate student at Florida State University, Stewart was a piece of the Seminoles' women's volleyball program from 2017-19 as a senior manager. His role happened alongside Coach Hulsmeyer, who was an assistant coach at Florida State from 2015-24. Stewart also served as president of the men's club volleyball team.
Personal
Stewart obtained a bachelor's degree in Marketing from Florida State in December 2019. Less than two years later, he graduated from Tusculum University with a Master of Business Administration. He competed for Tusculum's men's volleyball program as a team captain and was also a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) member.
Outside of his coaching responsibilities at Belmont-Abbey, Stewart also played a heavy part in the college's Make-A-Wish foundation. The Crusaders ranked top-five nationally among men's volleyball programs for their efforts and No. 1 in volunteer hours.
