Wake Forest Opens Competition at NCAA East Region First Round

Senior Bryce Gilmore and junior Wes Shipsey secured their spots in the quarterfinals of the men’s 1500 meters.
LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Wake Forest track and field team continued its postseason slate on Wednesday night as the Demon Deacons opened competition at the NCAA East Region First Round at the UK Track and Field Complex.
Senior Bryce Gilmore and junior Wes Shipsey secured their spots in the quarterfinals of the men's 1500 meters after posting solid qualifying marks in the opening round. Gilmore earned automatic qualification into the quarterfinals as he finished fifth in his heat with a time of 3:43.35. Meanwhile, Shipsey finished right behind Gilmore in sixth place, posting a time of 3:43.53, the fastest time among non-automatic qualifiers.
The Demon Deacon duo will now compete for a berth in the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday afternoon.
Earlier in the day, graduate student Nick Masterman ended his standout season for the Demon Deacons as he recorded a throw of 58.90 meters in the men's javelin.
Junior Charlie Sprott closed out the evening with a 15th-place finish after clocking a time of 29:20.35 in the semifinal of the men's 10,000 meters.
