Wake Forest Defeats Binghamton to Keep Season Alive
5/30/2026 4:03:00 PM | Baseball
The Demon Deacons will face the loser of Kentucky and West Virginia tomorrow at noon.
Junior Blake Schaaf led the way with a 4-for-4 day with a pair of runs scored, a double, a pair of RBI singles and a walk. The four hits matched Schaaf's career high, which he had set during the series-opening win over NC State on April 17.
Junior Kade Lewis recorded his team-leading 27th multi-hit game of the season, including a two-run double during a five-run fourth inning. Meanwhile, catcher Matt Conte matched his career high with a pair of doubles as he went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a run scored.
Junior Javar Williams tallied his second multi-hit performance of the Morgantown Regional, ending the afternoon 2-for-4 from the plate with three RBIs, two runs scored and his 10th home run of the season.
Freshman shortstop JD Stein added an impressive performance as he rounded out the Wake Forest lineup with two hits, including an RBI single, and a pair of runs scored. Meanwhile, sophomore Dalton Wentz added his 19th multi-hit game of the season.
Starting pitcher Cameron Bagwell was solid over 5.0 innings, allowing just a pair of earned runs with four strikeouts and two walks across 94 total pitches. The sophomore has given the Demon Deacons at least five innings in eight of 14 starts this season, moving to 3-1 on the year.
The Wake Forest bullpen was stellar down the stretch, as senior Zach Johnston and junior Blake Morningstar allowed only one hit and combined for four strikeouts over 4.0 scoreless frames.

"It's a great team win. I'm really proud of our guys and the way they came out and competed today. I thought we competed well yesterday. We limited the free 90s today, which was huge. We only had three on the day. Obviously, some great individual performances, Blake Schaaf here on my left, Zach Johnston, came in in a big situation, the game's still on the line. It's 10-3 with nobody out, and gets a punchout and a double-play ball to get us in the dugout. That was really the difference in the game. I thought Cameron Bagwell threw the ball really well. I think he got a little tired there at the end, the long innings of being in the dugout. The one inning, his pitch count got up over 30. I thought about not running him back out there in the sixth, but he talked me into it and Zach had to come in and bail us out. So, great team win, and it's good to still be playing baseball." - Head Coach Tom Walter
