Sullivan becomes the 48th Demon Deacon to reach the big leagues and the 14th during head coach Tom Walter’s tenure.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Becoming the 11th Demon Deacon to reach the MLB in the last five years, Sean Sullivan will make his major league debut on Friday, as the Colorado Rockies selected the contract of Sullivan on Friday.
"We are beyond pumped for Sean to make his debut and so very proud of him," said head coach Tom Walter. "This is a dream come true and to do it in Las Vegas against Nick Kurtz is a full circle moment for the Deacs!"
The development of players under Walter looms large, as Sullivan becomes the 14th player to reach the league under his tutelage and the 11th in the last five years.
He joins Tim Cooney (Apr. 30, 2015), Mac Williamson (Sept. 23, 2015), Will Craig (Aug. 27, 2020), Gavin Sheets (June 29, 2021), Stuart Fairchild (July 6, 2021), Nate Mondou (Oct. 4, 2022), Jared Shuster (Apr. 2, 2023), Parker Dunshee (Aug. 8, 2024), Rhett Lowder (Aug. 30, 2024), Shane Smith (Apr. 1, 2025), Nick Kurtz (Apr. 23, 2025), Chase Burns (June 24, 2025) and Bobby Seymour (Aug. 15, 2025).
Sullivan made an immediate impact in the Old Gold and Black, registering a 2.45 ERA in 69.2 innings to go along with 111 strikeouts, 19 earned runs and 21 walks allowed. Opponents batted just .175 against the lefthander.
He received back-to-back ACC Pitcher and Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Week honors to open the season, striking out 10 batters while allowing just two hits and one walk in four scoreless innings to earn the save in his first appearance as a Demon Deacon.
Sullivan led the ACC in strikeouts per nine innings and WHIP and ranks in the top 10 in the ACC in strikeouts, hits allowed per nine and ERA.
He currently ranks as the organization's No. 11 prospect, according to MLB.com. After posting a 2.94 ERA with a 24.9% strikeout rate across 104 innings between Single-A and Double-A last season, Sullivan has spent 2026 competing at the Triple-A level, continuing his progression through the organization's farm system.
Sullivan and the Rockies are set to face former Demon Deacon Nick Kurtz and the A's at 10:15 p.m. ET tonight.
