Demon Deacons Raise $3,068 for the Trinity Center

The team auctioned off the game-worn green jerseys from its 3-0 win over USC Upstate Tuesday night.
Winston-Salem, N.C. - Wake Forest men's soccer is proud to announce that its We Are Wake Mental Health Awareness Match jersey auction raised $3,068 in support of the Trinity Center, a Winston-Salem–based organization dedicated to providing exceptional mental health care to the community.
During the Sept. 8, 3-0 victory against USC Upstate, the Demon Deacons wore special green jerseys to promote mental health awareness. Each jersey was made available for auction, with proceeds directly benefiting the Trinity Center's Financial Aid Program, which provides low-cost therapy to uninsured and underinsured individuals.
"Mental health support works best when it doesn't stop at the edge of campus," Director of Behavioral Health and Performance Dr. Javier Martin-Fernandez said. "The money raised through the green jersey auction will support the Trinity Center's work in our community, and it reflects something we believe at Wake Forest: mental health matters and reaching out for support is a strength, not a sign of weakness. I'm grateful to Coach Muuss, his staff, and our players for carrying this message beyond the locker room and backing it up with action."
Next Friday (Sept. 18), another chance to support a great cause through Wake Forest men's soccer will open. The auction for game-worn jerseys during our Genna Wiley Memorial Pink Match against SMU (Oct. 2) will go live.
The proceeds raised will go to Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist's Cancer Health Equity Patient Care Fund, which provides free mammograms for women in need. The match is named in honor of the wife of former men's soccer athletic trainer Steve Wiley, Genna, who passed away after a long battle with breast cancer three days after Wake Forest won the 2007 NCAA National Championship.
