Wake Forest Ends Competition at ITA Women’s All-American Championships

Three players represented the Demon Deacons over the past four days.
CARY, N.C. – The Wake Forest women's tennis team wrapped up competition at the ITA Women's All-American Championships on Tuesday afternoon at the Cary Tennis Park.
Three players represented the Demon Deacons during the pre-qualifying and qualifying rounds of the tournament.
Junior Claire Hill recorded her first career win as a Demon Deacon as she defeated James Madison's Sierra Vagi in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, in the opening round of pre-qualifying.
Meanwhile, senior Sankavi Gownder secured a win over LSU's Tegan Bush during the consolation round of qualifying, 6-3, 3-2 (ret.)
Sophomore Evie Oxford also competed for the Deacs in the qualifying rounds.

"It was great to see Sankavi [Gownder], Claire [Hill] and Evie [Oxford] represent Wake Forest at the ITA All-American Championships. They all competed really well. Like most fall tournaments, we won some and we lost some, and doing so at this level of competition is promising for what the rest of the fall and the spring can bring. Most importantly, seeing the three of them compete for the first time this fall gives us a better sense of where we are and what to focus on in order to get better."

The Demon Deacons return to action in two weeks as they are set to compete at the Blue Gray Classic in Birmingham, Ala., from Oct. 2-4.
