Wake Forest looks to carry momentum from back-to-back ACC victories into Tuesday night's matchup at Spry Stadium.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Wake Forest men's soccer team returns home Tuesday night, welcoming Loyola Chicago to Spry Stadium for a 7 p.m. matchup.

The Demon Deacons enter Tuesday's contest with a 6-2-1 overall record and a 3-1-0 mark in ACC play after earning back-to-back conference victories over Virginia and NC State. The Deacs scored a 90th minute penalty to defeat the Cavaliers, 3-2, on Sept. 19 before Jeffrey White's 87th-minute finish lifted Wake Forest to a 2-1 victory over the Wolfpack on Friday in Raleigh.

Wake Forest has scored 20 goals through its first nine matches while allowing nine. The Deacs have received goals from 11 different players, with Tate Lorentz, Jeffrey White and Chandler Young tied for the team lead with three goals apiece. Lorentz and White lead the squad with nine points, while Young follows with seven and Joel Torbic has six.

MATCHUP NOTES

Tuesday marks the first all-time meeting between Wake Forest and Loyola.
Wake Forest enters the matchup at 6-2-1 overall and 3-1-0 in ACC play, while Loyola Chicago owns a 5-2-3 overall record.
- The Demon Deacons are currently first in the ACC standings on nine points with a plus-six goal differential.
- The Ramblers enter Tuesday with a 1-2-0 mark on the road.
The non-conference clash will serve as the program's Hispanic Heritage match.
Wake Forest has scored 20 goals this season while allowing just nine, ranking top five in the ACC in both goals per-game (2.22) and goals conceded per-game (1.00).
- Wake Forest has received goals from 11 different Demon Deacons and assists from 15 different players.
  - Of note, all 11 goal scorers have also provided at least one assist.
The Deacs are 4-0-1 at Spry Stadium this season with 16 goals scored and just five conceded.
Wake Forest has won back-to-back ACC matches, defeating Virginia, 3-2, before taking down NC State, 2-1, on the road.
- The Deacs will return to conference play Friday night at 7 p.m. as it welcomes a top-five opponent in SMU to Spry.

RECENT FORM

Wake Forest has won five of its last six matches, including three consecutive victories from Sept. 5-8 and its two most recent ACC contests.
The Deacs opened conference play with the largest offensive performance against Duke in series history, racing to a 6-1 victory on Sept. 5. Wake Forest followed with a 3-0 shutout of USC Upstate.
The Deacs bounced back following a road loss at Virginia Tech in dramatic fashion against Virginia, racing to a 2-0 lead before the Cavaliers equalized in the second half.
- Jonah Mednard came up with a crucial penalty-kick save in the 67th minute to keep the match level before Lorentz converted a penalty with 14 seconds remaining to secure the win.
Wake Forest then earned another late victory Friday at NC State. Chandler Young gave the Deacs the lead in the 21st minute before the Wolfpack equalized late in the second half.
- Freshman Henry Rosenfeld sparked the game-winning sequence in the 87th minute, finding Pariss Mitchell in transition before Mitchell laid the ball off to White for the decisive finish.

EL CAPITÁN

Jeffrey White has continued to provide a steady presence in his first season as team captain, entering Tuesday's matchup tied for the team lead with nine points on three goals and three assists.
The Tampa, Fla., native delivered the latest of those goals in dramatic fashion Friday at NC State, finishing in the 87th minute to lift the Demon Deacons to a 2-1 road victory.
- White's winner came after Pariss Mitchell collected a through ball from freshman Henry Rosenfeld and laid it off for the captain.
White also recorded two assists in Wake Forest's 6-1 victory over Duke earlier this season, giving him a team-high three assists on the campaign.
With his game-winner against the Wolfpack, White now owns seven goals and eight assists for 22 career points at Wake Forest.

HOMETOWN HERO

Winston-Salem native Tate Lorentz continues to lead the Demon Deacons' attack, entering Tuesday with nine points on three goals and three assists.
Lorentz scored twice in Wake Forest's 6-1 victory over Duke and later delivered the game-winning penalty against Virginia with just 14 seconds remaining.
He provided a pair of assists in the opener against San Francisco before adding another against USC Upstate.
- All six of his goal contributions this season have come at Spry Stadium.
The senior enters Tuesday with 23 shots, the most on the team, and has nine goals, eight assists and 26 points during his Wake Forest career.

NEW FACE IN THE STAFF

Wake Forest announced Monday the addition of Declan Doherty to the men's soccer coaching staff as the program's Video Analysis and Analytics Coordinator.
Doherty joins the Demon Deacons following a two-year stint on the Penn State women's soccer staff. During his time in Happy Valley, Penn State reached the NCAA Tournament in both seasons, including an Elite Eight appearance in 2024. The Nittany Lions finished that season with a 15-7-3 record and followed it with another double-digit win campaign in 2025.
Prior to Penn State, Doherty spent four seasons at Louisville from 2019-23 as a coach analyst. He also gained professional experience with Racing Louisville FC, serving as an academy coach and coach analyst while holding the title of Assistant Director of Coaching from 2021-24. Doherty also previously coached at Evansville and Buffalo and began his coaching career in Northern Ireland.
A native of Belfast, Doherty earned a degree in sport and exercise science from Ulster Jordanstown and master's degrees in Public Service Administration from Evansville and Sport Administration from Louisville.

INTERNATIONAL DUTY CALLS

Tuesday will mark the second consecutive match Wake Forest plays without starting goalkeeper Jonah Mednard, who is currently away with the Haiti Men's National Team.
- Mednard earned his first call-up to senior national team earlier this month and is with the squad for the current Concacaf Nations League window.
The redshirt junior started Wake Forest's first eight matches of the season, recording 29 saves and a .784 save percentage, both of which rank among the top three in the ACC. He also recorded two solo clean sheets and combined with freshman Quinn Syrett for another.
Mednard was particularly influential in Wake Forest's 3-2 victory over Virginia, making five saves, including a penalty-kick stop in the 67th minute, before Lorentz scored the game-winner in the final seconds.
With Mednard away, Owen Barnett made his first collegiate start in Friday's win at NC State. The sophomore made three saves and earned his first collegiate victory as Wake Forest held off the Wolfpack for a 2-1 road triumph.
Mednard is scheduled to miss Tuesday's match against Loyola Chicago as well as Friday's home matchup against SMU before returning to Winston-Salem ahead of Wake Forest's Oct. 9 trip to Boston College.

DEFENSIVE SOLIDARITY

Wake Forest has allowed just nine goals through nine matches this season and owns a 1.00 goals-against average.
Mednard has made 29 saves on the year, while Barnett has four and Syrett has three. Daniel Krueger and Mason Sullivan continue to anchor the back line, with Krueger leading all outfield players with 734 minutes and Sullivan ranking second with 719.
Barnett's performance at NC State marked another example of Wake Forest's depth in goal, as he made three saves, including a crucial stop less than a minute into the second half, to preserve the Deacs' lead.

NATIONAL LEADER IN WINS

Friday's victory over NC State pushed Wake Forest to 165 wins since the start of the 2015 season, tied for the most in NCAA Division I men's soccer during that span.
Bobby Muuss also earned his 61st regular-season ACC victory with the win, the most by any team in the conference since 2015.
