Senior Patrycja Lagida recorded her second consecutive double-double as she finished with 16 kills and 14 digs.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The Wake Forest volleyball team dropped its home opener to Davidson by a final score of 3-1 on Friday night at Varsity Arena.

Senior Patrycja Lagida recorded her second consecutive double-double as she finished with season-highs in both kills and digs. Overall, Lagida finished the match with 16 kills and 14 digs, as well as four blocks.

Over her past two matches, the Chotomow, Poland, native has tallied 30 kills and 27 digs.

Two other Demon Deacons (1-2, 0-0 ACC) ended the match against the Wildcats (2-2, 0-0 A10) with double-digit kills as redshirt senior Sanaa Williams logged 11 kills and graduate student Ryleigh Whitekettle added 10 kills.

Williams also had a solid game defensively as she notched seven blocks and four digs. The Nashville, Tenn., native also recorded a .429 hit percentage and a .524 kill percentage.

Freshman Emma Keeping continued her stellar start to her collegiate career as she tallied a season-high 29 assists and five digs.

Meanwhile, senior libero Emma Roman recorded a team-high 20 digs to go along with a pair of assists.

How It Happened

The first set opened with a number of traded possessions before the Deacs went on a 7-0 run to build a five-point lead.
- Sanaa Williams and Patrycja Lagida teamed on a block to give Wake a 9-8 lead.
- Sadie Poeck entered the frame to give an immediate spark, throwing down kills on the right side as Lagida handled the left.
  - The former clocked a ball to up the Deacs' lead to 13-8.
The Demon Deacons were able to take advantage of several errors by the Wildcats, as well as a kill by redshirt junior Catherine Burke, to extend their lead to seven points.
Freshman Emma Keeping set up Williams in the middle twice to make things 22-17 in the Deacs' favor.
Following a Davidson service error, Lagida put Wake at set point with her second kill of the set
- The Deacs took set one, 25-20 following a Davidson error.
After Davidson took a quick 8-3 lead to open the second set, the Demon Deacons rallied back to cut the deficit to two following a kill by Poeck and a pair of Wildcat errors.
Wake Forest responded to another Davidson run to make it 17-16 following a service ace by junior Becca Bellows.
The Demon Deacons tied the set at 24-24 off an ace by Williams.
The Wildcats claimed the second set, 26-24.
Lagida opened the third set with a pair of kills, including a diving dig that found the back of the Davidson side.
Davidson went on a long run to grow a seven-point lead before the Demon Deacons added a 7-2 run of their own to make it 17-15.
The Wildcats took the third set, 25-21.
Wake Forest and Davidson traded points in the early stages of the fourth set.
Lagida notched a pair of kills while Williams added one to give Wake Forest a 13-12 lead.
After the Wildcats built a three-point lead, the Deacs tied the set at 16-16 following a block by Williams and senior Laiya Ebo.
Davidson won the fourth set as the Deacs fell in their home-opener, 3-1.

Standout Stats

Senior outside hitter Patrycja Lagida led the Demon Deacons with a season-high 16 kills and 14 digs against the Wildcats.
- The Chotomow, Poland, native has now logged back-to-back double-doubles, having recently logged 14 kills and 13 digs against Houston on Aug. 29.
Three Demon Deacons tallied double-digit kills on Friday:
- Patrycja Lagida - 16 kills
- Sanaa Williams - 11 kills
- Ryleigh Whitekettle - 10 kills
The Demon Deacons logged a .346 attack percentage in the first set.

"We played really well in moments, and then we couldn't really do a good job of sustaining it and reading the situation throughout the match. That's what happens when you play a good team. You have to deserve victory. One set isn't going to get it done. We have to come out, play strong and build over time."
