Brian Holmes joins the Demon Deacon coaching staff as a student assistant coach in 2018 as he wraps up his Wake Forest degree in communications. Holmes returns to Wake Forest after a six-year professional career. He reached AAA, and finished with a 31-19 career record and 4.24 ERA in 108 outings and 71 starts. A 13th round pick out of Wake Forest after his junior season in 2012, Holmes had a fantastic start to his pro career that summer, going 7-2 with a 2.57 ERA in Short-Season A as he was named a Houston Astros MiLB.com Organization All-Star and a New York Penn League All-Star. He followed that up with a stellar 2013, going 5-3 with a 2.13 ERA. Holmes reached AA for the first time in 2015 and earned a call-up to AAA in 2016 after being named a Texas League All-Star in AA with a 4-2 record and 3.73 ERA. Holmes spent two years at Wake Forest following one year at Young Harris Junior College. As a Demon Deacon, he went 10-7 with a 2.91 ERA, striking out 147 batters. He is the most recent Demon Deacon to throw a no-hitter, accomplishing the feat against Marshall on March 5, 2012. Holmes struck out 10, allowing a run on two HBPs, a walk and sac fly.
