Stephen Czarda joined Wake Forest in November of 2019 as the department's Social Media Manager and currently serves in the role of Senior Director, Communications & Social Media Strategy. He oversees social media content production and analytics for the department–both on the main accounts and individual sport accounts–and supervises the Wake Forest Athletic Communications staff. 

From 2019-25 Czarda was the primary media contact for Wake Forest’s nationally-ranked men’s soccer program and serves in the same role for Wake Forest men’s basketball.  

Czarda has either led or assisted in the execution of social media content planning for numerous Wake Forest Athletics events since his arrival, including: 
  • Two NCAA National Championships (2025 Men’s Tennis and 2023 Women’s Golf)
  • Four NCAA Bowl Games (Pinstripe, Duke’s Mayo, Gator and Gasparilla Bowls) 
  • Five NCAA Men’s Soccer Tournament appearances and the 2024 ACC Championship 
  • Women’s Soccer’s 2024 National Championship appearance 
  • Numerous Wake Forest Sports Hall of Fame class announcements 
  • The 50th Anniversary of Women's Athletics 
  • Recognition of Dave Odom and the 1995 ACC Men’s Basketball Champions
  • Hiring of head coaches Steve Forbes, Megan Gebbia, Jake Dickert and Jeff Hulsmeyer

Under his leadership,  Wake Forest Athletics accounts
have combined to earn 775 million impressions, 142 million video views, 47 million engagements and gained more than 440,000 new followers since November 2019. Additionally, 15 different posts earned more than 50,000 engagements and six different videos earned more than 400,000 views. 

@DemonDeacons -- the Athletics' Department's main social media account -- increased its year-over-year total interactions by 70 percent in 2020 while the football and women's basketball social media account both saw a top-10 national increase in social media interactions per SkullSparks. The women's basketball account had a 409 percentage increase in year-over-year interactions from 2019 to 2020, which ranked first in the country. The football account had a 109 percentage increase in year-over-year interactions from 2019 to 2020. This mark ranked 10th in the country according to SkullSparks.

Since taking on primary communications responsibilities for men's soccer in August 2020, the team's Instagram account has grown 127.2 percent and ranks No. 4 nationally in total followers, up from 12th. The program has also ranked in the top-four nationally in 2020 and 2021 in total interactions generated according to SkullSparks, including 478,555 in 2021. 

In March 2022, Czarda managed social media and communications efforts for the team's immersive international trip to England where the Instagram account collected a seven-day record of 914,423 impressions with 40,421 total engagements and an average engagement rate of 4.4 percent. 

Czarda came to Wake Forest from UNCG, where he served as the Assistant Athletic Director of Strategic Communications from 2018-19.

He previously was with the Washington Commanders from 2013-18 serving in four different roles including Managing Editor. 

A native of Orlean, Va., Czarda graduated from George Mason in 2013 with a Bachelor's in Sport Management. He earned his Master's in Sport And Recreation Studies from George Mason in 2015 where he wrote his thesis: Motivators for Social Media Engagement with Official NFL Team Twitter Accounts

Czarda resides in Winston-Salem. His father, Larry, is the president of Greensboro College.
