Kristian Borthwick came to Wake Forest in March of 2018 as an Assistant Director of Sports Performance for Olympic Sports. He primarily works with the Demon Deacon men's and women's tennis teams along with the Cheer and Dance teams.
Borthwick came to Wake Forest from University of Bath in the United Kingdom, where he served as Program Lead for Strength and Conditioning. In his role, coached performance athletes along and lectured on the undergraduate Sport and Exercise Science program. During the 2016-17 academic year, he served as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Northwestern State University in Louisiana, working with the women's basketball and tennis programs and assisting football. From 2014-16, Borthwick was the Head of Strength and Conditioning at Radley College in the UK, overseeing the strength and conditioning program for all sports. While in college, he was an intern at Northumbria University, working with rigby union, rugby league, hockey, swimming, tennis and volleyball athletes.
Borthwick is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Coach (CSCS) through the NSCA, an Accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach (ASCC) through the UKSCA and an Associate Fellow through the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA).
A native of Aspatria, Cumbria, England, Borthwick graduated in 2013 from Northumbria University with a degree in Applied Sport Science with Coaching. He got his Master's from Northumbria in 2014 in Strength and Conditioning. He is a British weightlifting tutor and assessor and played national league rugby union before leaving for the USA.
Borthwick resides in Winston-Salem.
